I am a Marine Biologist living in beautiful Sitka, Alaska. I plan to use this blog as a resource for interested ecologists and economists. Hence “Eco”…and “beaker” emphasizing the scientist in me. I graduated with a BS in Aquatic Resources with Aquaculture as my Major and Marine Biology and Fisheries Science as emphases. I grew up as a commercial fisher in the once again “beautiful” Prince William Sound where I witnessed, first hand, the devastation of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill where I later became HAZMAT certified to participate in on-water Oil Spill Drill Cleanups in Valdez, Alaska. After moving to Sitka, Alaska, I became employed with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for four years. I am currently the Sitka Port Scanning Biologist for the International Pacific Halibut Commission. My duties are to electronically scan halibut heads during commercial landings to detect PIT (Passive Integrated Transponder) tags for the collection of migration data.
